Taking the Wheel: Rally Alley at Ripley’s Pigeon Forge

Adventure-Trukz at Ripleys

Built on the adventures of Robert Ripley and his travels across the globe searching for extraordinary people, unusual artifacts, and unbelievable things, Ripley’s embraces the spirit of discovery.

At Ripley’s Super Fun Park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, that same ethos guided General Manager of Ripley’s Super Fun Park and his team when they met Aqualand Industries at IAAPA Orlando: they weren’t looking for a quick fix to an underperforming space but for something that would genuinely surprise guests and invite them into an experience they couldn’t find anywhere else.

When they saw the Adventure-Trukz® and Crazi-Bugz®, they recognized an opportunity to deliver something truly extraordinary—the chance for guests to take the wheel themselves, often for the very first time.

“We had virtually unlimited flexibility in designing the track, allowing us to create a highly customized guest experience. Aqualand’s support was instrumental—they provided clear guidance on design considerations while also inspiring new ideas, resulting in a track that is both engaging and operationally effective.”

Built on Existing Ground

The starting point was an aging go-kart track: spacious and operationally sound, but completely flat and visually static. Rather than demolish and rebuild, Ripley’s team saw potential in evolution. They reimagined the space as Rally Alley—a multi-vehicle experience zone that would appeal to a broader age range while maximizing the existing infrastructure: the pit lane and maintenance facilities were retained and repurposed. Tunnels were added to create immersive landscape elements and enhance the guest experience.

Inspired by the Great Smoky Mountains setting, the design brief was ambitious: create a landscape that felt like driving through a national park, not a flat circuit.

General Manager of Ripley’s Super Fun Park explains the collaborative process:

“Aqualand impressed us from day one with their energy, responsiveness, and results-oriented mindset. Their team consistently engaged with questions quickly and thoughtfully, reinforcing their commitment to delivering a high-quality experience and driving success.”

Design Principles in Action

A roller allows the team to maintain a safe and consistent track surface.
A roller allows the team to maintain a safe and consistent track surface.

That flexibility translated into thoughtful execution:

Repurposed existing infrastructure—pit lane and maintenance shed became core features rather than obstacles to remove

Layered the landscape—transformed flat terrain into varied surfaces, elevations, and tunnels, creating authentic off-road sensation and visual drama

Designed for supervision—track layout balanced technical challenge with clear sightlines, enabling safe two-operator management

Built for daily operation—shared battery charging and tool access in the existing maintenance shed; two-operator staffing model refined through operational planning to optimize ride flow and guest safety

Scaled for mixed ages—two vehicle types in a single space allowed families with younger and older children to experience Ralley Alley together

Gateway to Adventure

From the first conversation, Aqualand brought more than products to the table—they brought a collaborative approach that shaped every phase of Rally Alley’s development.

That partnership extended into daily operations. “We’ve found the overall maintenance to be very straightforward, with minimal complexity for our team,” General Manager of Ripley’s Super Fun Park explains. “Aqualand has also been a strong partner, providing prompt and helpful responses to any questions, ensuring continued operational success.”

For an operator managing daily guest flow, that responsiveness isn’t a luxury; it’s essential. The Park’s maintenance team can focus on preventive care and guest safety rather than troubleshooting operational mysteries.

What’s Next: Short-Term Wins & Long-Term Vision

Rally Alley delivered immediate impact. Short-term, the Attraction enhances Ripley’s offering with a new, engaging experience that appeals to families seeking hands-on adventure. But the strategic value runs deeper.

“Long term, it plays a key role in driving repeat visits, creating anticipation, and giving guests an additional reason to return to Ripley’s Super Fun Park.”

That momentum has already sparked ideas for evolution. “Moving forward, we plan to further enhance the sensory elements and refine the track layout to deliver an even richer, more immersive guest experience,” General Manager of Ripley’s Super Fun Park adds. The foundation is solid; the potential for expansion and refinement remains substantial.

For Ripley’s, Rally Alley represents more than a single Attraction: it’s a proof of concept for how existing infrastructure can be reimagined, how partnership accelerates execution, and how a focus on guest agency (letting them take the wheel) builds loyalty that lasts.
